Starting to get really annoyed with silly folk spoiling my wife and mines rides by shouting “You aint allowed on here with that and usually they are accompanied by a dog of the lead or one that is on an extendable remote control one as I call them because some are hard to see when out five meters or so , I think it’s time the government and the powers that be did some educational adverts like the green cross code ones back in the day to highlight the legal side of of ebikes and promote more awareness of the laws also let joe public know that all ebikes are not illegal ?

I just slow down, take my time, have a brief chat and don't run over too many dogs!

On narrow pavement style cycle paths beside the road, if its busy I just use the road, on the road I ride wide to give myself an escape route.

That’s the point we do slow down or even stop to let folk by with dogs I even stopped last weekend by an ice cream van there was quite a few people blocking the cycle path waiting for a 99 with a flake and lady with her duster dog not on a lead also her boyfriend who was built like arnie the terminator said you ain’t allowed on here with that so I politely told them the 250 law and informed them that the dog should be on a lead in a public place they was not amused as folk waiting for ice cream started laughing at them then said to me that I was correct about the dog

Around here Newcastle upon tyne we are lucky to be spoilt with great cycle routes/paths all shared use of course.

My disarming secret is a simple tinkly bell.. As yet no one has failed to crack a smile on being interrupted by the persistent and piercing tinkle of the bell on my bike, I think the sight of a huge lummox like myself with a tinkly bell on their bike simply breaks norms and expectations.

The other thing is when passing folk on foot SLOW down as not to appear to whizz past.. take the time to raise a friendly hand and smile.. and only run over dog leads when no other option exists ( those 5m+? stretchy ones easily cover the whole track width.. ) but in ,my experience with enough warning most dog owners will call their muts out of harms way.

Everyone can/should enjoy the paths n tracks..

both my wife’s and mine have a bell also a humorus electronic bell that does clown car sounds and a few others so we are putting the effort in to be nice to others it just seems lately that the effort is wasted sometimes.
I was even moaned at a few weeks back coming from tynemouth I rang the bell several times no reaction then I had to stop and was told my bell is to quiet the dog walker had bloody earbuds in and was listening to music but the dog heard me coming

I cycle on the roads, but on the rare occasions I'm on some path or (even rarer) dirt path, I honk from long distance, so it's not shocking and they have time to move out of the way, which they do. When disguised as a pedestrain, I find the abrupt realisation of close proximity to a dangerous damned bike behind me alarming and troubling, I don't care how gentle the freaking tinkle is. I also honk around blind bends, in case some other cyclist is approaching in the opposite direction. I wish more cyclists would honk around blind bends on paths and pavements - one almost ran me over the other day while I was walking. All of a sudden there was a damned cyclist right in front, on the pedestrian side. Why the hell wasn't he using the clearly marked cycle path? Must have been trying to shave milliseconds from his time by cutting across that bend. I hate cyclists.

The Hornitt has two settings, the 120dB is a high pitched twittering that causes people to look up in case they are about to be attacked by a swarm of angry sparrows. The quieter setting of 110dB is more like a horn.

Nope. My V1 has a 130db miniature harpy shrieking noise which makes people look up at the sky expecting to be shat on, the 120db setting sounds like the sort of beep you'd expect from a motorbike, a small one. I'm still on the original batteries and it's been at least three and a half years, two AAAs, and there has been lots of beeping. The V2 isn't as waterproof, @Wayners reported, but he did have his pointed upward to the rain for a time as I recall.

I had a very nice sounding bell once. Lovely sharp ring. Every time I used it people used to stop and look at their phones thinking that they had a message. Partial win I suppose.

Both our electronic bells are 120db i did have the100db but thought the 120 might work better , perhaps it’s time to change to the loud whistle sound .

Oh yes, earbuds... I don't try too hard to be heard, I know I won't be, so I crawl past on the widest side and enjoy the reaction, or lack of it in some cases. Priceless!

I have a large, sonorous and friendly sounding Pashley ding dong bell. Many walkers have commented on what a lovely bell it is. Of course it's bloody useless for ear bud wearers or morons with 500w stereos in the car.

Dodgy or busy sections of road, i just ride on the pavement

Had a few folk say "You shouldn't be riding on the pavement....It's ILLEGAL!!(though i go a little over walking speed and give everyone else right of way, stopping where required)

Used to ignore them. But my new comeback is 'Yeah, F*****g great isn't. I'd rather be a lawless pirate than a f*****g apple polisher.
