GPS Software Poll

Does anyone log their cycle rides using GPS? If so what software do you use to keep your logs after you get back?

I've been using the Garmin Forerunner 205 to log my activities for the past couple of years and I've been using the free Garmin Training Centre to import and store all my rides/runs. However it is playing up now and since upgrading my phone last year I've realised that I don't really need two devices now (I don't like to go out running/cycling without my phone!) and I've recently started logging my activities on the phone using GPS Sports Tracker which seems to be doing a great job and is free. On a side note does anyone else log cycle rides on their phone? If so what software are you using?

However, I've now decided I want the equivalent of the Garmin Training Centre software (or better if possible) but which is capable of reading historic data from the Training Centre and ongoing data from my phone. I've done a bit of searching and the best I've come up with so far is SportTracks which to be fair seems to do most of what I need.

So what is everyone else using? Has anyone got any other suggestions that I should be considering?

I've tried to use my iPhone with any number of apps but it's next to useless due to the battery life. Might try to get some kind of battery extender.

What sort of battery life do you get with a GPS logger active on the iPhone? I know they are power hungry but I didn't realise they were that hungry!

I've tried sportypal, endomondo and Google mytracks. Sportypal was the best so far but thay could all be improved.

I used to walk more and have a Garmin GPS12 from those days.

I usually do not log my bike-rides, but I will occasionally bring my old GPS.

I use OzieExplorer to import the data to the PC.
I use GPSBabel to convert to KML
and I will display my data on Google-maps as unlisted.

This does not allow many of the nice statistics, but it works well enough. In OZie-explorer I can easily measure lengths/distances etc. of tracks.

On holidays I can just use Ozieexplorer + maps and occasionally email myself the coordinates/trackfiles and waypoints.

In the car I will use a Garmin Nuvi and occasionally copy the POI database. This will allow me to plot where we have been on holiday etc.. On Holiday I will often bring the satnav along on bike-rides. It allows me to easily find my way in places where I have not been before.

SportyPal

I settled on SportyPal on my Android phone - seems to be the simplest of the lot and provides plenty of journey detail.

SCREENMEDIA SPRINTGPS - SHARING

The iPhone 4 is better got this data and still had about half battery. I am thinking about adding heart rate and cadence, anyone got any recommendation on a bike computer that does this. Will wireless work given the location of the motor near the bottom bracket?

Is there a simple system for a blackberry?

to get an idea of mileage I just plot my routes on PC using Garmin mapsource... a bit simplistic I guess. But something for on the bike when travelling would be very useful.

suppose this is the kind of fing:confused:

To be honest I'd just use a simple GPS logger on your Blackberry, then you can import the GPX in to any number of free apps or online services when you get back to see speed/elevation profiles and maps. You could always use Google maps on the Blackberry to see where you are while you are out and about.

I think maybe an hour.
Ouch! I get through about 10% battery life in 40 mins with GPS logging turned on and Windows Media Player running at full blast when I'm out running along the canal. Without WMP I'd guess at about 10% per hour. 100% in one hour is seriously hungry.
