Greenedge CS2 motor dead - help needed!

Hi all,

My Greenedge CS2 motor has died after just over 2 years use, been getting louder for the last few weeks and made a horrible noise and the wheel stopped turning although I can hear the motor spinning if that makes sense.

I bought it through ebikes direct who no longer stock the spare, anyone have any experience of changing one of these over using a diiferent wheel and motor?

A local ebike shop in Bristol suggested that as the motor was turning but not spinning the wheel it could be repaired?

A quality new wheel with a motor fitted might be a possible attractive alternative, as a repaired motor might not be cheap or even long lived?
The supplier not having a spare is a really bad indication to my mind!!
Putting money into such a motor is one thing, repairing it yourself, if you could, is another!
I get the impression you cannot repair it yourself, which is certainly not for everyone, and could be dangerous if something goes wrong on the road! Think safe!
Maybe someone could give advice about such a new motor/wheel combo who has experience of them and little or no problems.....
This post was basically meant to stimulate your thoughts on the subject!! #
Only you know your limitations, that is assuming that youhave some!!
Maybe an electrically clever e-biker from this website might live near to you and willing to help?

Thanks Andy, yes repairing myself is not really an option. I will be sending it to Woosh for repair/replacement options!

The CS2 is not a good bike, previously I had a Kudos for 5 years with only the normal wear and tear issues. This one has gone through about 3 chargers, disc changes etc. Very cheaply made and I had replaced many parts over the first year!

The wheel sensor falls off every time the chain slips!

A working motor that doesn't spin usually means the clutch is either slipping or the three small nylon gears are not engaging with the outer fly wheel. Woosh is a very good place to send it for a overhaul.

The clutch has gone, probably because the salty water from winter roads has got in. There's most probably other damage in there, but a new clutch will cover most of it. The clutch includes the plastic gears. Bearings are really cheap so replace them at the same time. Everything else will be fine as long as whoever repairs it cleans out all the rust and remnants of the salt.

Any competent ele tric bike shop can sort it out. It's about £100 for a new motor, so you win if the repair cost is anything less.

The biggest single reason for rusty motors that I've seen is because the owner took the wheel off and put it back with the axle the wrong way up so the wire went up instead of down, so be careful when you put your wheel back in the bike.
