Storck Raddar - Storck Raddar Electric Bikes - News - Storck RADDAR support Guinness world record breaking journey

Eddie Sedgemore, aged 69 aims to break his own Guinness World Record for the furthest distance travelled on an electric bike, a total of 2011 miles in 22 days. His ride will take him from Land's End to John O'Groats and back to Land's End, all on a Storck RADDAR Multitask.

Eddie will begin cycling on Saturday 10th September 2011 to raise money for the charity jole rider. The money he raises will enable jole rider to get African children to school by bike as some Children in Africa can have walks of up to 10 miles each way to school. jole rider’s bike programmed is called bikes4Africa

EDDIE SEDGEMORE:
This will be Eddie's 6th [and 7th] End to End [Land’s End to John O’ Groats]. He has cycled it three times and he has also scooted it on a push scooter, although he was a young man then [59]. Eddie is a double Guinness World Record holder and aims to break his own record for furthest distance travelled on an electric bike, to do this, he will ride at least 2011 miles in 22 days. You can see his full route and daily blog here.

“I am passionate about cycling and bikes, and I am excited by the fact that what I love doing most will help children get better access to school in Africa – and by bike!” - Eddie Sedgemore

Eddie’s pedelec bicycle of choice for this epic journey is the award winning 2011 Storck Raddar Multitask. The Storck Multitask is the latest hybrid bicycle designed by Markus Storck in Germany, and has won numerous awards for its design and innovation. The bike has been donated by Storck’s UK distributor Storck Raddar UK LTD

The bike has been prepared for Eddie by local retailer and Storck stockists Take Charge Bikes of Bath. Both Eddie and his bike will be on show at the Cycle Show at the NEC in Birmingham on Sunday 1st October between 16:00-16:30.

Eddies bike will also being going up for auction on eBay throughout Eddie’s ride (The Item will be starting on Sunday 9th October) to raise additional funds for jole rider.

“I am very happy to support Eddie for this epic trip. I have cycled Lands End to John O Groats myself on a road bike with 3 friends over 10 day 3 years ago and understand the challenge. To do this trip both ways in one go is an amazing challenge both mentally and physically. I will ride with Eddie for a couple of days as he passes through northern England and would encourage anyone to join him even for a few miles.“ - Ian Hughes, Storck RADDAR MD

Hi NRG,

Both the Wisper and Ezee bike tours and are fantastic. I don’t know the full logisitcs behind them but I believe they are greater distances over a longer time scale? (almost like a grand tour?) never the less both are fantastic achievments and great for rasing the profile of ebikes.

Guinness have endorsed Eddie’s trip as it requires him to be in the saddle for 22 consecutive days (amongst a long list of other requirements!). Assistance or no assistance, cycling 90+miles a day for 22 days is an achievment by anyone’s standards.

The Jole Rider charity and Bikes4Africa campaign are both fantastic initiatives, and we really want to help them raise as much money as possible during this trip.

If anyone would like to join Eddie on part of his ride then let us know and we will do our best to organise this for you, I’m sure he would love the support.

Regards

Hi NRG,

.... Assistance or no assistance, cycling 90+miles a day for 22 days is an achievment by anyone’s standards.
For sure, of that there is no doubt and the charitable contribution is laudable, but......its not really the 'furthest distance travelled by electric bike' is it.

At last another bike manufacturer making pedelecs in adult frame sizes well done Storck. They make the frames up to 23" unlike some other manufacturers who think we can all fit on tiny frames.

Sorry off topic but good luck with the journey and can only be good for the electric bike market.

Exactly so.
It would come as news to the RTW leccy bike travellers, I'm sure.
Marketing BS, again.

Plus the fact that the guy and his wife going round the world are doing it unassisted.

This thread seems to be just a way to get storck a bit of publicity, which is fair enough. But I hope they are not trying to use this as an advertising feature because someone did not do their homework and they will look a bit ridiculous, however nice their bikes are.

I am pretty sure that Mr Sedgemore will have someone recharging the bikes batteries and looking after him. But all it is is a very nice holiday and I hope he enjoys it.

It's an entirely bogus claim anyway. It's not as if he's doing it non-stop; he's taking 22 days for the return trip and sleeping each night.
Land's End to John o' Groats - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If we take the cycling route as 862 x2 miles, that's 78 miles per day, which is no mean feat and will be a bit sore on the arse, I've no doubt. I've no wish to take away from the rider's endurance or committment, but I find Storck's claim disingenous at the very least and downright misleading at worst.
A series of 39 mile commuting journeys could also be claimed to be a record? If so, I expect a load of claims into the Guinness book from now on. :)

Update on Eddie's progress:

Currently riding through Hartpury just north of Gloucester and making good progress and good spirit.

Rode 100 miles yesterday (day 2) and used only one full battery charge and 50% of the a second battery. Similar performance for day 1. No bike issues. I will meet up with Eddie and ride with him either Wednesday or Thursday this week, and then next week too.

Storck Raddar - Storck Raddar Electric Bikes - News - LE JOLE 2011 Guinness record attempt on hold

As noted in our previous news article Eddie Sedgemore, aged 69, left Land’s End on Saturday to begin his epic cycle ride to John O’Groats and all the way back to Land’s End in just 22 days.

Eddie was doing this mammoth bike ride of 2011+ miles to raise funds for jole rider so that more African children can get to school by bike.

High winds sweeping parts of the country however, coupled with unexpected health concerns, meant that on reaching Ironbridge on Day 03 of LE JOLE 2011, jole rider had no choice but to cancel this ride for Eddie’s health and safety.

We are all bitterly disappointed and none more so than Eddie himself, who was very difficult to convince that cancellation was in his best interests.

On a more positive note, Eddie is raring to go again next year. This man will not be restrained!

Eddie’s next attempt is currently being planned for May 2012, and of course we will be supporting him again.
Until then you can still support the Jole Rider charity and their bikes4Africa campaign online. jole rider, an education-centred organisation and registered charity
