simple answer is we pay more for everything, screw the brits, evening our companys do it so why should they be any different. If the government want us to spend to get the economy going then get us paying prices that everywhere else does...

its the brits screwing the brits..it has always been this way. Our own our worst enemy.....

Some manage to sell at German prices, EBCO/AVE a good example. even justebikes sell Haibike at near German prices, but not sure if they are continuing with the brand

Happy to help but when I look the choice of Haibike specifications get me befuddled....what price have you seen it for?

Did you try Erik the Dutchman? http://drumo.nl/index.php?id=169

is this it?

demand so high for this bike unlikely to see it discounted in the foreseeable I'm afraid....

Hi guys,

Just a quick one to let you know I'm meeting with the UK brand manager for Haibike tomorrow... I know its a bit last minute! :/

But if there's anything anyone wants me to ask whilst I'm there please let me know by tonight. Your welcome to drop a PM.

Regards

Martin
I should imagine that a lot of forum members would want to know what went wrong with the support when 20ston's frame broke and he couldn't get it it repaired. Apparently, there was no support whatsoever from Haibike. That sort of situation would be very worrying for anybody forking out large wads for that sort of bike. It certainly put me off just when I was thinking about one.

Hi d8veh,

This was because there was no UK support at all.
The difference now is that there is a large UK distributor and a dealer network to support the brand. This also comes back to the British prices. But this is the price you pay if you want to walk into your local dealer and get the problem fixed, and not have the hassle that 20ston had..

Eddie,

I could have put my life savings on you being the first reply with this :p

Martin
lucky that you waited till I returned from India then....

I find your answer to Daves question disingenuous and calculating. what do you know about Tons situation...nothing I suspect. So higher prices is justified by UK support..please give us a break!lol

Why should UK support cost consumers more than the same level of support in Germany, The Netherlands or wherever?

It doesn't seem logical to me that UK consumers should have to pay any more for an EU product than any other EU state (other than the small variations that result from differences in VAT rates).

Who will carry spare frames then, and which dealers will have the expertise to strip and repair a Bosch motor?

I remember reading about it before. He bought it from just ebikes.
The difference is just ebikes was importing these on a very small scale.
From what I remember reading before 20ston had problems from the start, when the bike took ages to even turn up. At this time there was no uk distributor at all and therefore the warranties were handled by just ebikes and passed back to Haibike. The difference this time is the big UK distributor will handle warranty problems along with the dealer. Im sure just ebikes could have sorted the problem efficiently but obviously some people arent as organised as other. I don't know for sure but from my years dealing with bike manufacturers, it was probably the case that just ebikes couldn't get the problem organised and sorted rather than haibike refusing to sort the problem. In my experience the manufacturers/distributors are pretty good at clearing up any issues. Its normally the 'middle man' where the problem lies. I understand he got a replacement in the end.. This process should have been resolved much quicker and more efficiently.

D8veh,

Its the distributor that will carry frame spares. The dealer will carry more accessible/common spares.
Its the dealers responsibility to carry out repairs. Although not all dealers will strip a motor, its the more serious dealers that will help. Its common for a new motor to be replaced by the distributor than repaired by the dealer. Although that said, the first thing I do when stocking any electric bike here; is to strip it entirely down to bare bones including the motor so I can be on hand if there are any problems further down the line. I know this is not the approach of all but I like to know where I stand when talking to customers regarding more specific questions/problems relating to the motor etc.

Unfortunately its always been a viscous circle in the bike trade that if the end consumer has a problem and they contact the manufacturer, the manufacturer points them to the distributor and the distributor points you back to the dealer. We as a dealer then work back up the line to sort the problem for you.

This is normally when the problem arises; with the dealer.

I guess the lesson to be learned is to buy from a dealer that is not just there to sell you a bike but to be therefore you in the future. This is obviously not easy to determine as every dealer seems like the nicest chap in the world when their selling you something.

I suppose the good dealers are the ones that last and that get a good reputation in the trade. :)

You tactfully avoided answering my questios,
Hadn't seen your post till after I posted in reply to eddie.
I have posted a reply for you.

I'm not tactfully avoiding anything, just trying to be help full :)

Eddie..

Remember these are the prices set by Haibike and the UK Distributor. Not me.
I will put the forward the 'prices' tomorrow and post you a official reply from them if you like?

Does Haibike supply their distributors in the other countries cheaper than the one they will have in UK?

There should only be a slight variation in prices in the different countries.

One thing you should mention when at your meeting is, tell them we're a cynical & miserable lot on here and we're their future customers. So they better treat us right. :)

We were impressed by people's impressions of the bikes. Not had the chance to ride them. However have contacted Raleigh on several occassions and not heard anything. May be Christmas/New Year holidays but contacted KTM and CUBE who have both responded. Does not fill me with confidence. I would imagine extra cost is due to extra mouth in the food chain though there could be other reasons. Some are prepared to pay extra for support while I can understand why others buy a bike from abroad.

Happy New Year all!!

What extra mouth is there in the chain compared to all other countries? Don't they also have distributors and dealers offering support & service?
