Check the engine mounting bolts on your bike I looked down and noticed the the middle mounting bolt on my bike had worked loose almost to the point of falling out. I have removed and lock tighted all three but will check them regularly from now.

The bolts in question should be tightened to 22 newton meters as indicated on the head of the bolt. The bolts should be checked by the shop, with a torque wrench, during the predelivery prep. It should be checked again six weeks or 100 to 150 miles later. Shops selling these bikes should have a torque wrench and someone that knows how to use it.

Bikes bought online will not get these checks unless you do it yourself or have it done. Don't blame the bike. Further, if you are using any mid drive bike hard, the motor bolts should be torqued on a regular basis.

Inspired by Emo, I checked the bolts on my Rose.

Fine, although one took a little tweak, so worth doing.

Interestingly, one of the bolts has a blob of anti-tamper glue on it.

Bosch discouraging tinkering?

Surely not.

The axle bolt on my Alfine hub loosened on a ride.

First thing I knew was a crunchy shift, which may have contributed to the hub's demise.

Not my finest preventative maintenance hour.

In your defence, and if I'm reading it correctly, the outer nuts are of pretty poor quality and are like cheese. I had nothing but trouble with mine on the old Haibike, until I swapped out to some better quality nuts from a 1980's Raleigh that was being scrapped. It cured the problem straight away.

Dome nuts on the Rose which look reasonable quality.

However, despite the serrated washer underneath they do seem prone to loosening, so maybe they are not the best.

I've never liked dome nuts, irrational, but I like to see a bit of bolt thread protruding to show the nut's thread is fully used.
