Hi all peeps i was listening to a pod cast that i found very interesting apparently there is a new tachnology allowing a battery to have its useable life extended just wondered if anyone else has heard of it ?..!

Depends on the type. There are techniques for reviving lead-acid types, but for lithium it seems doubtful, given the possible dangers.

Hi Flecc im afraid its not my best subject i.e. batt. technology but lithium batt's were indeed mentioned he made the analogy of the breakdown of the batt. owing to charge/recharge cycles that bit i understood he likened it to materials splitting apart as the batt. degrades' the technique was the use of a micro capsule inserted which would patch things up and so give the batt. new life ? it is very new tech. but i think very interesting but it will be a while yet i spose before it is put in to practice ..!

Ahh yes thats the one i also recognise the name Scott White thanks d8veh if it turns out the way he says it could be a big step forward in batt. longevity' something to keep an eye on methinks ..!

Interesting approach, but it's the cathodes that are the life limitation at present rather then the carbon anodes, so this seems to be more a safety improvement than a life extender. That's why for the latter nearly all the research has gone into improved cathodes.
