Have had a pair of these for about a year. They heat the palm of the hand but leave the fingers cold, which rather defeats the object.

Good riding on main roads here as most cars stayed at home.

[QUOTE=eddieo; 4 walkers/climbers tragically killed in Scotland, I really don't get it..what where they thinking!

They were descending from one of the most beautiful places it's possible to be, in these conditions; it hadn't snowed for 4 days: Lady Luck was not with them & they were caught in an avalanche :(

As someone who has a place near ballater , its quite common for people to go up in this weather .
As long as you are fully kitted out its not a problem. I understand that it puts pressure on the mr teams , but most mountaineers are avalanche trained.
Sadly things like this happen.

Agree with this as got a similar pair- fine if not riding as you can make fists and the fingers get heat that way. Useless on a bike

Might be worth looking at DIY heated gloves/socks. There are a few articles on the web showing fairly easy to make ones that work pretty well. I made some heated insoles a few years ago, using lengths of element salvaged from an old electric blanket, and they worked very well indeed. It'd be easy enough to sew heating wires down the fingers of some fleece gloves, I'd have thought.

The locals aren't often stupid enough to go up in this weather.

Would be interesting to see such a project. Wouldn't you risk to burn your fingers if done incorrectly?

There are a few articles around on the web, I just more or less copied the way they suggested doing it, but used the wire from an old electric blanket, rather than buying some PTFE covered wire. I now have some of the very thin PTFE wire that this chap (DIY Heated Vest) used for his heated jacket (I bought it to repair Hall sensor wires in hub motors) and that might actually be better for gloves, as it's only 0.8mm thick overall.

Heat control could be something as simple as a very cheap brushed motor controller with a pot on the throttle to set the heat level. If you added a buffer resistor you could ensure that the maximum wasn't ever too high.
