In the current climate, i've been looking at stuff to keep warm, thinking about trying one of these:

Self-Heating Electric Waistcoat > Maplin

anybody used one...?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
bought one last year along with a wind up torch(you could try the torch without taking out of plastic as handle left free to wind)..neither worked so took them beck, after refunding me i watched while another assistant put the torch back on the shelf, i said.."that doesnt work"...the reply..."its still in the packing".....

I was searching for reviews on heated gloves a while back and the Maplin stuff doesn't seem to impress people and this looks a bit too cheap. Are you sure you have got all non power options covered?

I get the impression that Maplins winter clothing isn't really serious, its more just a novellty electronics product. They also sell heated gloves that I had a look at and I thought they'd last about 5 minutes of real use.

Keith, maybe winding-up the torch would keep you warm even if the waistcoat didn't!

For anyone after some serious kit, Gerbing are the market leaders in terms of quality and I can personally recommend them.

All in all these gadgets dont work as good as eating the right degree of nutrition and some warming up routines you could do prior to a ride.

If these things worked then the pro's would use them.
Keeping the legs warm with layering is a good investment.
I use silk long johns and ronhills and waterproof bottoms.

Not sure thats true as pro's dont generally use e-bikes, I find the level of excersise on my ebike is consderably less causing the cold to catch up with me, so getting warm and keeping warm tend to be two different things.

No i ment the Pro's dont use heated waistcoats.
Its not that long ago that they used to put an old newpaper up their vests to keep out the cold.

Lol the properties of newspaper make it an ideal insualtor :)

Yes I did understand what you meant, but pro's dont use heated waistcoats, because pros dont ride e-bikes. So I think my point is still valid :p

ebikes are still a fairly new technology, and I think the market for people wanting to keep warm on them will increase. Which is not something I really suffer from on a standard bike as I'm usually working my arse of anyway.

I use the maplin gloves, which work OK with 1300mAh rechargables in, but the technology or battery power is not quite there yet...:(
