Ex-Brit living near San Francisco. I bike every day I'm near home for utility and sometimes for commuting, often for leisure.
Last year I found my work was an opportunity to commute via bike but sometimes it was very hot and I got the idea of fitting a motor to my bike so I can put either no energy in or just freewheel the last 10-15mins to begin earlier the cooling down.

I don't need a motor for illness/age reasons.

My fave bike is the Brompton, it does 90% of what I need, and I own 3 Bromptons, one of which is my target to fit a motor.

I'm interested in costs, kits, DIY, and battery life and recharge times as if I do commute I'd like to get the lightest battery which just gets me to work and will recharge whilst at work so can help on the way home if required.

I have choice of biking all the distance or using train some of the distance. Usually when its hot I use the trains more.

I don't sweat when riding, I only sweat when I stop. Or to be more precise, the humidity is so low the sweat is evaporating instantly when moving and when I stop moving it stops evaporating so immediately and becomes visible. Talking dripping-off-back-of-my-head sweat. I had ideas of putting a fan at work but an electric bike would help too.

I am guessing if I do fit a motor to my Brompton it will get used by my family who aren't so much into fitness cycling as I am. ;)

Hi Nigel. Welcome! You are ahead of me! I don't even have a bike yet! I'm hoping to get a Wisper 905sel late next week when it has been PDI'd after after arriving from China! I'm SO excited!

Anyway ... I'm sure that someone more knowledgable than me will be able to advise!

Best Wishes

Don

Hi Nigel, welcome to the forum. If you look up the recent posts made by member jerrysimon you'll see loads of information on fitting various motors to Bromptons and similar small wheel bikes.
