I have a Mercedes Smart EBike that I purchased about a month ago and all has been working well however when I went to ride to work this morning and turned the system on I got the initial 2 beeps to acknowledge the system had turned on however it then continued to beep constantly and the electrical assistance is not working, the console is fully working and I can adjust the PAS level on screen does anyone have any idea as to what the problem might be?

Thanks for your help

Have you been using it in the rain. If yes, it probably has water in it somewhere. Is it giving any error codes?

Hi vfr400 thanks for your help
Yes I have used in all weathers, no error showing on console assuming by error you mean the spanner icon. Have tried to enter the mode settings but when I hold the power button and cycle buttons down together if just switches to the clock flashing the first 2 digits to change rather than just one digit so not sure what I’m doing wrong.
If damp what would you suggest? Bring indoors for a couple of days in the warm? Or should I be spraying a water repellant over all the electrics?

Usually BionX components are very resistant to rain. I use some tape on my BionX batteries though.

How frequent are the beeps?

Are the regeneration modes functional?

How is the charging status of your battery?

Maybe the system believes that the battery is out of its usable parameters, either the voltage of one or more cells or the temperature of one or more sensors.
The voltage thing happens often (the BionX BMS is not of the highest quality) , but usually you should be able to use the system either in regen or in assist.

A faulty temperature sensor is rare, but this could(!) cause such a behaviour.

Do you have lights powered from the BionX system. maybe you check for a shortage there (but typical you get an error message in such a case)

If you have a faulty contact you usually get an error symbol / massage on the display.

The beeping is constant at about 1 second intervals, the battery shows fully charged all bars on the display and lights up green when you hold your finger over the charge socket.
I placed console into regen mode which didn’t work however on turning the crank at speed the wheel hub made a drum roll noise and the battery stopped bleeping.

Now convinced my hub has packed up, the battery stops bleeping when I disconnect the power lead to the hub, I have also measured the current in the power lead at 52v thus confirming the battery is fully charged.
Are these hubs fixable? Or do I need to start looking for a replacement

The controller is inside the motor hub. To access it, you have to take the wheel out and temove all the spokes because the motor splits down the middle, then you canseparate the two halves with a puller. Its a bespoke controller that I've never seen as a spare part, so unless you're good at electronics, there's not much you can do with it. If you can fix it, you then need to rebuild the wheel.

Your best bet is to find a Bionx specialist, who has the equipment to diagnose and repair your bike, but they're ver few and far between.
