Hey there

Newbie here. I'm looking for advice. I want to add a front hub motor to my bullitt cargo bike. I'm considering the AKM-75SX and AKM-100. Her's some considerations
  • The bullitt front wheel is 20"
  • I mostly ride it by myself (about 110kg for me and the bike) and sometimes, but rarely with the kiddo (150kg)
  • I want to stay 250W street legal and cruising at 30km/h is more than enough for me
  • I live in Stockholm, which is mostly flat, but there's some rolling hills every now and then
  • I want the motor to help so I don't get sweaty commuting, but I am a triathlete and want to pedal too.
I'm considering running either the AKM-75SX and AKM-100 at 48v. Ideally, the 260rpm version would be the sweet spot, but it seems to be impossible to find. So I'm leaning towards the 328rpm version (the 208rpm would be too slow, I guess?)

I see that the AKM-75SX has a 21 reduction ratio (more torque, but also more wear and heat at 48v?) whereas the AKM-100 has a 8.2 gear ratio.

What would be the best option? I'm torn between the two. On one hand, I think that the 75SX would have more torque, but it's smaller and don't know if it'd get too hot for the weight. The AKM-100 is beefier, so probably better with the heat, but will it have enough torque on hills at lower speeds?

The alternative is a mid drive, but I have some sweet cranks and I'm not a fan of swapping those tbh.
