I purchased a sunlova kit last week, all is working well, except I cannot remove the battery. When I unlock the battery with the provided key, it unlocks easily, however when I try to slide the battery out of the rack, it dont seem to want to budge!!!

any ideas? am I missing pressing a button or lifting a catch?

I emailed sunlova but no reply

any ideas anyone?

Hi Donna

I don't think you are missing anything if it is the same rack and battery as mine. The battery slides in and the lock just ensures that it won't come out - sometimes if I forget to lock it it can move and disconnect when I'm cycling.

Having said that it can be difficult to slide it out when I want to charge it. To get it out I get hold of the handle and use the frame of the rack to lever it out (its hard to explain). It does take a decent amount of effort though.

I hope that helps.

Hi Donna,

I am not familiar with the Sunlova Kit and please excuse me if some of my ideas sound basic.
I assume that you put the battery into the rack? If you did, was there much resistance? The reason I ask if it took a lot of effort it may not have been properly lined up with the track that the battery slides along and is simply jammed in very tight.

You say the key unlocks easily, that would suggest the lock is OK unless the mechanism is broken and the bolt is still engaged in the battery. Are you able to see the locking bolt lock and unlock when you turn the key.

One other thought, are you turning the key to the fully unlocked position.

Just thoughts,

J:) hn

My Sunlova battery needs a hefty pull to get it out (it stays in pretty well without being locked) but I charge it on the bike with no problem.
I'd suggest making sure the lock pin has properly disengaged and give the battery a good tug.

thanks for your help & advice. had to give it a real big yank to get it out. It appears that the key locking system is very tight fit. it ias taking just as much effort & fiddling to lock it back into place

Good - glad you got it sorted :) I found that if you push the battery across (to the left or right - I can't remember cause I'm still waiting for my new battery:( ) - the lock will work be much easier to use.

You will probably find that it gets easier with use. Both times I have had a new battery on my Giant bike it has been a real fiddle to get the locking pin to engage. After a while it has eased up and then been no problem.

battery jam

there is two little spring loaded balls on the battery which fit into two holes on the rack put a small amount of lube on them or you may find they will jam making it harder to remove battery.
