Snow tyres are great on snow and I have as much grip on snow as I'd expect on dry gravel. They aren't a huge help on the refreeze that's common here, studs are the only effective thing on ice and they can be a bit hairy.
My biggest problem at the moment is slush filling the treads and lifting the tyre up, not really a problem in the car as I have a very aggressive tread pattern but the Marathon Winters are struggling on the bike.
