Snow tyres are great on snow and I have as much grip on snow as I'd expect on dry gravel. They aren't a huge help on the refreeze that's common here, studs are the only effective thing on ice and they can be a bit hairy.
My biggest problem at the moment is slush filling the treads and lifting the tyre up, not really a problem in the car as I have a very aggressive tread pattern but the Marathon Winters are struggling on the bike.

With severe weather widespread in Europe there's probably a shortage of winter tyres in the trade now anyway, so for most it's likely to be only an option for next year rather than this.

Just got a set of four winter's 225/45/R17, brilliant and defo worth it, you can not really compare it to the regullar summer tyre, it's just so much better. On the other hand £450 is a bit of pain but a small crash can always cost you more than that ;)
