 I hate to ask this, but ... I cannot find the correct tyre pressures for my Wisper 905sel.
I have searched the User Manual and peered at the 'difficult to see' marks on the tyres ... but I'm stuck!

Please help me out guys ... and none of this ROFLOL please?

Not so  today!

My guess would be around 50-65 PSI.

My Brompton Kojaks are 110PSI!

Thanks Jerry ... why are yours so high, I wonder?
Thin bald tires (with kevlar belt) for better rolling resistance i.e. faster. Tires at higher pressures tend to roll faster. Keeping them at a higher pressure also helps prevent puntures.

yes but it is hard to read unless you get on your hands and knee,s best way is rub some chalk over the numbers

alan
Thanks Alan ... the chalk idea is a good one! I'll use the prayer mat to save my knees!

In my youth, it was just a case of pumping up until the tyre was hard, or it was too difficult to get any more air in. With cars, the tyre pressure is more critical; just a couple of psi under or over inflated and this is thought to be significant. To have a permitted range of pressures for a cycle tyre of 50 to 85 begs the question: When is 50 psi acceptable and when is 85 psi appropriate? ... perhaps David can let us know.

Thanks again, Alan

Basically depends on the weight of yourself and any added load Don, plus factors for low rolling resistance or comfort.

So if you are very heavy, bias to the upper end, but in all cases factor in whether you want comfort (pressure on the low side) or low rolling resistance (pressure on the high side).

Flecc ... how come in a few choice words you can shine a bright light onto a previously dark area? Or am I your grasshopper?

Brilliant! Thank you!

Thanks Flecc,

I ride mine at 70psi, that's a good point re punctures so far (touch wood) since I started running at 70psi, I have not experienced one! However that may also be down to the new Kenda, e-bike tyres we are using they have thicker walls than normal tyres and have both Kevlar and Nylon reenforcement.

According to Kenda, e-bike riders are much tougher on tyres than other bike users so they developed a special tyre!

All the best

I have just spoken to Wisper support re tyres. apparently we used to get complaints about punctures, but this problem seems to have stopped since introducing the new e-bike range.

Has anyone using Kenda e-bike tyres noticed a difference?

We keep looking at Marathons but my feeling is if it ain't broke don't fix it!

All the best

David

I covered just over 3000 miles on two bikes with Kenda tyres in 2006/2007 without a single puncture in them. During the same period I suffered several punctures in my trailer tyres and three punctures in the Maxxis tyred front wheel of another bike I had at the time. So the Kendas were excellent in that respect, especially since there was a bottle smashing craze among the local kids at that time*.

* This was form of competition to see who could get the best fragmentation!

Thanks Flecc, I can imagine the fallout from the fragmentation trials must have been horrific, I hope none of the little so and so's hurt themselves!

Thanks to all for their input. Just checked my tyres ... pleased I did! The side-wall detail is Min 40 - Max 65 psi. Actual pressures were 30 front, 35 rear. Used the bike for 10 of the 12 days since collection, covered circa 100 miles. Must I always expect a drop in pressures at that rate? I have nitrogen inflation on each of my car tyres; any merit on having same on cycle tyres?

Just to prove what a Numpty I am ... ordered tyre pressure gauge and hand pump for my new Wisper ... only to discover tyre valves identical to car tyre valves. Anybody want to buy gauge and hand-pump (nearly new - used once!)

End of tale ... much firmer ride, but also much quicker!

Thanks again for help, everybody

Don

PS Got all the gear ... but no idea!

No none hurt at that time, miraculous in the case of the apparent local bottle smashing champion. Since then and in older years, he's gone on to have compound fractures of his left thigh bone and left and right forearm bones in three moped/motorbike accidents. All have metal repairs so likely to cause any security gate to go berserk! He was one of five youngsters somehow perched on one moped passing me recently, so the right leg yet unharmed is likely to be metallised soon!

I would like to know what the correct tyre pressure for a Kudos sport, as there seems to be no mention of it in hand book.

Hi jazper53 ... it seems there isn't a 'correct' pressure as there is with cars! I've checked my tyre walls and pumped tyres to max shown! Seems to be the thing to do!
