Welcome to the forum Curley.
Depends on what you want the bike to do, the terrain you want to cover and you fitness /weight also the range you need. For instance a light person can get away with a light weight kit but a lardy person will need something a bit more substantial. The average kit weight is about 6 - 7 kg on a bike but you could lose a 2 - 3 kg for a light weight build.

Hi Curley,
from Co.Down myself, needed something to cope with the hilly terrain and rough back roads we have,
bought frame and front wheel (rest i trashed) on the local gumtree for £25, added all new parts after that plus the Bafang BBS02 750watt kit with battery, now in the process in doing away with the rear derailleur and fitting a geared Alfine 8 hub... you could say it`s become a hybrid bike now, copes with much everything.
only thing i`d say is don`t skimp on the battery, get at least 13aH and upwards

bike weighs in now at approx 23kgs and cost of the conversion kit plus the battery was around the £600 mark.

If you live in hilly parts, not as fit as you were, have injury etc then this is for you!

Thanks for the welcome. I am only cycling to work each day which is around 5 miles each way just a few small hills so I don't need something to powerful. It would appear they are loads of kits around but getting the right one will be tricky .

Hello!

It would appear they are loads of kits around but getting the right one will be tricky .
I wonder if you might get more joy if you ask in the Conversion Kits section of the forum? Could be wrong but I suspect conversion specialists are more likely to see it there rather than in the intros section. Let them know what you want to achieve - Nealh's questions above are a great starting point.
