David from Wisper actually mentioned this, but would it be possible to make the numbers add up? Say if he built a factory in Felixstowe it would be ideal as the parts could be taken straight off the containers and assembled - but are there enough young workers in Britain who are willing to learn the skills for assembly of these machines to an equivalent quality of what we are currently getting, whilst keeping wage/salary costs reasonable?I think the time may be comming for ebikes to made a bit more locally, I've actually been wondering about this for some time, what with the extended lead times on frame orders, Alien running out of GS2s, the ever increasing cost of batteries, etc.
Of course not. We priced ourselves out of world labour markets years ago. Who would you find in this country who would work for less than £3 per hour? We can never compete with so-called third world labour rates. That's why we are no longer a manufacturing nation and all jobs are service related, only because you can't actually do those abroad for the most part.David from Wisper actually mentioned this, but would it be possible to make the numbers add up? I've worked with a lot of immigrant workforces-this country may be seen as a Utopia by some-by and large they are good workers.Family bonds and responsibilities seem stronger and not state dependent-the dole grabbing /breeding wasters are predominantly British born and bred.Don't kid yourself ---the U.K. would soon grind to a halt without its low paid immigrant workers.Of course not. You can 'earn' more on the dole in this coumtry than many workers do in those far-eastern manufacturing countries. That's why the UK is such a magnet for immigrants - turn up here, head straight to the nearest dole office, get fed and housed at the nation's expense, and churn out kids by the dozen.
Oh dear, now you've got me started - Old Git mode fully engaged!
Rog.
dont worry its all swings and roundabouts. when the far eastern countries start to earn a better standard of living they will look for somwre else to get things made eventualy it will be us who have the cheapest labour and they will all bugger off again.
