Hello Everyone....Bought a Hitway BK11 .....runs lovely but as I am getting on in years now...a friend suggested a twist throttle as mine has the extra add on orange connector. (3 pin )

I purchased a twist throttle and when I plug it in I get error code E07 on display.

Has anyone come across this previously. ??

If so can you suggest a solution.

It's connector is probably wired in the wrong sequence. You'd have to dismantle the throttle and test continuity to the connector to confirm. Alternatively, cut off both connectors and join the wires in the right sequence. The colours should indicate the sequence.

Is the throttle a generic one or a Hitway genuine one ?

Assuming that you have an S866 LCD (you didn't tell us), error code E07 is motor error. E08 is throttle error.

E07 can be hall sensor error, which would have one of two possible causes:
1. Signal interupted, either because motor connector isn't in far enough or the cable is damaged.
2. Something is shorting the 5v so that the halls can't work. That could happen if you got the wrong sequence of wires in the connector.

E08 normally comes when there is a non-zero throttle signal at the time of switching on. You get that when the throttle stop is damaged, and sometimes when the connector wire sequence is incorrect.

First step should be to ensure that the motor connector is pushed ALL THE WAY TO THE MARKED LINE, not just in tight.

its a generic throttle......cheap not always best.....looking for a genuine Hitway twist throttle......cannot locate one anywhere.....thanks for the advice though...apreciated
when i disconnect the cheapo twist and reboot controller......all is as should be ,,,,

If you have a meter, you can find which pin on the bike's connector is ground and which one is 5v by testing continuity. By logic, the third is the signal wire. You can't test the throttle's connector without dismantling the throttle. The sequence is almost certainly wrong, so I'd cut the connector off about 2" from it and strip back the wire about an inch on each side. The colours of the wires will show which is 5v, ground and signal. You can then adjust the sequence, rejoin them and insulate to make it work. That'll take about 10 mins, then you get a working throttle. You can't use it as it is, anyway, so you have nothing to lose.

I've just been through all that with a pedal sensor that had the same connectors.

The E07 is indeed a motor error code, it could be that the generic incompatible throttle is inducing that error code rather then E08 throttle error.
The incorrect wire sequence being the error issue which the controller is seeing as a motor fault .

Made a bit of headway....I decided to buy another twist throttle to see if the E07 issue was consistent. On the original throttle I cut back the raised rim on the orange throttle plug as I read somewhere this could hinder the connection. ( made no difference) so cut back the orange plastic totally on the throttle plug,,,,( again made no difference.... so now I am in the position where I can do as "saneagle" suggested and just chop off the throttle plug altogether and try hot wire it.
I now have the luxury of the newly purchased twist throttle to fall back on......I tried the new on and it does not show the E07 issue (on my S866 controller) but still not working in throttle mode ??
Has anyone got a run through of what my S866 should be set to ideally, so I can duplicate on my Hitway just so I know the controller is at least set correctly.....thanks in advance folks and i will keep you posted if i manage to resolve it.......just as a last comment ....the unit functions as should in pedal assist mode.....

P09=0 makes throttle independent (illegal). P09=1 disables independent throttle (legal).
P10=2 enables pedal assist and throttle operation.

I'm not sure if P09=1 allows dependent (on pedalling) throttle. I think it does. In that case, P09 determines the throttle mode and P10 is what enables and disables its operation.

LATEST UPDATE _ Plugged in the New Throttle ( NO E07 error) set the S866 to 9=0 10=2 to see if it would work .....alas NOT ....No response when throttle used. So have cut the end of the old throttle and was presented with wire colours RED, BLACK and GREY.....so that should be pretty straight forward when I meter the ebike socket.....find the 5v and Gnd which leaves me throttle wire.
I will give it a go tomorrow using the multimeter method...see where that takes me....thanks for the advice guys....will keep you posted......

When appropriately connected and switched on, the grey wire should go roughly 1.2v ro 3.8v when you operate the throttle. If it does that and still doesn't work, it must be a settings issue.

Saneagle.....Success !! Had a session with the MULIMETER today.....chopped off the old throttle plug..bared the wires and applied 5V and Ground to the throttle and monitored the GREY to ground...It indeed varied voltage up to 5v....so at least the throttle is working !! ticked that off the list.

Bared the wires on the chopped off plug and placed it in the Bicycle connector. Initially I could not find the 5v supplied by the bike, trying every wire combination of the 3 leads, only to discover I had bent a pin when inserting into the socket, gggrrrrr !!
Having found the 5v after correcting the pin issue, the only one left was the throttle wire. !!

Connecting all 3 wires now using flying croc leads, it was just a matter of setting up P09 and P10, messed around and VOILA !! the motor kicked in with the throttle twist....

Anyway !!! the gist of all the above goes back to your initial statement, it was all down to matching the throttle wires to the bike wires as indeed the wiring was not colour matched as you would expect.

Ordered a decent 3 pin MALE and FEMALE connector, which I will transplant when it comes, still want it pluggable !

I only write the above in the hope it will assist anyone else with HITWAY BK11 Throttle issues.
