While I'm waiting for my new bulb to arrive I figured I needed a better light on SuperBikey than my little reflector flasher staticy thingy light.

Since I have a front bag mounted on the handlebars along with assorted controls, brakes, bell and gear change I didn't have room to mount my Space thingy that would have allowed me to mount my extra light.

So, having spotted some screw holes on either side of the forks I decided to pop it down there. I had to make a holder that would screw to the threaded hole on the right hand fork. I wanted to use aluminium but didn't have any close enough to the right size so ended up knocking it up out of nylon.

See the pictures.

I needed to turn it down to 22mm and put an 11mm counter bore at one end so that the threaded tube sticking out of the fork would fit up inside it. Then a 5mm hole was drilled down the middle for the whole length and then a 10mm hole was drilled part way through to allow for the Allen bolt and star washer.

Before screwing it on I heated the end of the nylon that would press against the fork so that it would conform easily to the shape of the fork. It did very - very nicely. The lamp fitted nicely. I'm after doing one for the otherside of the forks now :D

The lamps only look like they are pointing down, it's just that the steering is pointing round a fair bit.

There be a grey button on the back of the light. One push turns it on, second dims it, third turns it off.

I don't like to rely on one main light - especially an incandescent type. I like an LED one as backup but got caught out with the Shimano bulb blowing so quickly. A new bulb is on its way but I was left with only a little three-led 'here I am' type light instead of a proper one as backup.

Nice neat job Vikki, looks almost like standard equipment on the bike.

Thanks, Flecc and Michael.

I wanted to paint it black but didn't have the time to let it dry. I will paint it black at some stage :)
