How To Quieten Hub Motors?

I saw this video on You Tube YouTube - eZee motor temporarilly full of oil.

An Ezee motor was used and the hub filled with oil (viscosity unknown) via the disc brake mounting holes, then the oil was allowed to drain out. This appears to result in a much quieter motor.

1st question is does it really work and what side effects might occur?

2nd question, who is going to try this at home and report?

3rd question, what viscosity of oil to use?

Without doubt it will work to quieten the motor considerably due to it's sonic damping effect, but the oil will run out all the time since the bearings are not sealed wall and there are no separate seals.

However well the oil is drained, when the motor gets hot in use and the remaining oil thins in consequence, there will be continuous further leakage onto wheel and brake.

Therefore I wouldn't recommend it.

The choice of oil (and sometimes grease) inside gear hubs (i.e. not motors) is a very sensitive issue, so I imagine that it is the same for hub motors with reduction gear.
Best is to follow manufacturer's recommendations.
