I wonder if the bearing is worn and caused the loose fitting?
I would try a new bearing with shemozzle999 suggestion or use a hot glue gun to seal in bearing!

You can't hot-melt glue bearings. They have too much thermal mass. Plus, it would be too soft anyway.

If the bearing is truly loose, maybe something like JB Weld epoxy would fix it. Shimming it might work if you can find thin enough shim steel.

Hi I've got a synergies mistral that I bought with a dead battery. It all works though as I tested with my battery

Intended to get a new battery and clean up for mrs but she isn't interested

I live in Brighton - yours for £75 which is what I paid/spent on it

A complete set of working spares attached to a bike :) !

Going to try it again, sealing in the bearing with a new supply of Loctite 641 bearing retainer (old bottle he used before was ancient and probably past its best although it worked for a little while). There is no sign of wear on the bearing whatsoever, so don't think that is the cause. I think hubby has explored idea of shimming it - he's an engineer by trade, but more familiar with huge mining equipment than delicate electric bike hubs!

Thanks for offer of the bike for spares Kirstin S, but Brighton a little too far from Cornwall!

Agreed. It would cost more in petrol or train fares just to come have a look !
