I used to be for all that sort of thing, but now I think it's a bit irresponsible. It worked, so we have to give that to him, but what he built was very dangerous. There were no positive end ring insulators, so high risk of shorting the nickel strips; and no double insulation of the sense wires, so high risk of shorting one of them too. He didn't go in any depth into the safety issues. You get the impression that anybody can get an Amazon welder, knock up a cell-pack and get years of happy ebiking.

His cells got very hot. There was no mention of demanded current vs recommended max cell current. He was probably over-driving them, which could cause them to catch fire on a long climb of high continuous current, and at least it would severely shorten the life of that battery.

If you know about all this stuff and are aware of the dangers, you can push stuff to the limits, but my thinking now is that it's better have a decent safety margin.

Disregarding all that, the gist of the video was that you can have a smaller battery and pedal harder and/or go a shorter distance if you want, as long as you keep stopping to let your over-driven battery cool down.

I had a chap contact me a through months ago wanting to buy an empty Carrera battery case .

He told me he had set up his e bike a Subway frame to run on Two Makita Power tool batteries so around 10AH .
Then when he got to work he takes them off and uses them in his power tools on site .

He never came round to buy the case shame as I was well interested to see his set up and really like the dual use .

With the original battery Mathew helped me with that I blew 1 cell group on when I first joined and now I have around 3 other salvaged packs with good Samsung cells putting them into defunct power tool batteries seems a good use for them .
I was just about to start selling them on e bay in batches of Ten or try build my first battery for my own use !

A nice big 48V rear rack battery to put on my Array to work with the Down Tube problem is I would kill my self lol trying to ride the range it would give me in One ride I be knackard for a week or so

Just watched the video,.

We would have loved bikes like this whe we were kids going scrambling on Choopers and Grifters in the 1970s.

Around 12 to 14 years old !!!!

Looks like great fun
