There is another thread about this one here and consensus seems to be that the claims are very unrealistic, it isn't in production and can't be independantly tested so they can say what they like.
The journalist has also described the Paris bike share scheme as a big success so there's an easily identified lie to start with. :p

This idea could be prove useful for converting any existing bike to an e-bike..

Green wheel turns pedal bike into electric hog - Discovery.com- msnbc.com

not sure about range tho'
All seems a bit vague to me.
40,000 miles, eight years travel at an estimated 20 miles per business day
There's only one battery technology that quotes these sorts of life-lengths and recharges - it would have to be some sort of super LiFePO4 type battery.
It appears to be some sort of energy storing device, as the claim is one can charge by pedaling or plug into the electric grid.
However, as can be read here on the forum regenerative or energy storing devices require far too much input to produce any real out put. My MTB style ebike has regenerative charging and it is a slug (very hard work) without power (it's like riding with the brakes on). So unless they have solved the problem of getting something from nothing it will be constantly plugged in - hardly a green wheel

they say: A123 batteries..

the big A123 is too big, would not fit,
so from the technical drawings there are most propably A123 M1 2300 cells used

counting the numbers of cells and looking at the space for the cells on the drawings, there would be only something around 120Wh of batteries..
with 120Wh there is no such range (very very unlike) as they claime

I think I found a picture of it without the covers. :)

They only last a couple of years and capacity drops off after 12 months. Bit like batteries. Hill climbing might be a struggle.

And no use at night time since a Barnowl might swoop down and snatch it. ;) :D
