In what state of assembly are Wispers delivered?

If you look to the bottom of this page( if it works!)they say the bike is delivered " fully assembled " in their special own boxes. If you buy else where you have to " pick through the pieces " So the on line shop which can offer you a shed at the same time to keep it in,or a leaf blower to keep the bike tidy has its own boxes made for Wisper?I put this to the jury that I think this is bull and all Wispers are delivered assembled the same way. This type of blatant lying really annoys me.I have a hat and humble pie here ready if the website is correct. On the other hand if I am correct,David please kick arse.

Hi BigBee

Thanks for your post, it has bought to my attention the fact that All About the Home / Bike offer this superb service.

* All our Wisper Bikes are delivered fully assembled in our own custom made full size bike boxes. Many other dealers supply Wisper bikes straight from the distributor and leave the customer to pick through the pieces. We fully build & test each Wisper so you simply have to pop on the pedals, turn the handlebars and charge the battery!!

I had not heard of it before but apparently they work this way with all their bikes.

Wispers are usually sent in a very tough 7 ply cartons fully assembled apart from pedals, front wheel (already installed on 806), Rack, seat post, and handle bars on the stem. They take about 30 to 60 minutes to assemble depending on how good you are with a spanner! Of course we encourage people to buy from Full Service Wisper Dealers who will build the bike for you.

All the best

David

Hi David, Is it only the "full service" dealers that can carry out warranty work?

what if you buy from an online trader how do you deal with a repair then please.

Full Service

Hi Eddie

If you look on our website under Distributors, UK and Ireland it explains that only Full Service dealers offer full support, that is why we recommend them. You are less likely to get a deal from them because they have to take into the account the free labour on warranty work in the first year and the time doing safety checks and building the bike etc.

If you buy from an off line trader they would look after you but you would need to get the bike back to them and from them after they have done the work. It is best to speak to them before you buy to check on the level of service you will be entitled to as they fall outside the Full Service Dealer support package. Our on line dealers are however very competent and willing to help....... otherwise we would not be supplying them!

All the best

David

It is quite interesting to hear that the bikes are delivered fully assembled. i would imageine in that case the box would have to be custom made with the dimensions of at least 170cm*600*110cm least. To me hard to imagine unless the bikes are shipped with personal courier.

We at Electric Bike Shed ship Wispers fully assembled with personal courier but only if the buyers fall within 60 miles radius of our postcode TW1. I just think it is a lot more professional to ship the fully assembled bike whenever possible, this also reduces the risk of damage in transit. Same if there would be any issue with the bike we also collect it in person. If the customer lives further than 60 miles then we arrange a collection via UPS and same send the bike back with the courier. there is however the drawback of putting the pedals and wheel with D.I.Y :)

as of 2010-01-22 22:50, your website currently says 100 miles!

I actually came close to buying my 905 from yourselves but thought that as there were two ways of working out the distance (its <100 miles on the A12 but >100 miles using the more normal route of the M25) it wouldn't be cost effective for you to make the deal so went for another on-line seller instead.

seriously though if the offer is now 60 miles (still a good offer and had I lived in Reading still, well within 60 miles you would have been a shortlisted dealer) I would change that website just in the interests of accuracy..

If you live within 100 miles radius of Twickenham TW1 you will get your Wisper Bike delivered fully assembled and adjusted, just ready to ride with no hassle of assembly out of the box

Hi Alex,

Well spotted and really sorry, if it's says 100 miles then we will deliver it fully assembled within 100 miles radius. Please note that whatever distance and price is displayed it will be always what the website says at the time of the order. The distance you can work out using the Google maps by typing both postcodes. We say radius so if its 110 miles on Google maps we will still deliver it fully assembled as the radius might be less the the actual route.

Thanks once again for spotting my mistake

I purchased my 905se city from all about the bike. Their information is correct, put the pedals on, turn and tighten the handlebars and it's assembled.
They were helpful on the phone when I had a query and were very polite.
If you want an idea how the bike turns up unassembled, visit Wisper's website and access the 905se City installation manual from the electric bike menu.

this is where I got my info from...

Wisper 905 SE City

if the offer really is 100 miles then thats impressive as it really looked "too good to be true".

TBH as there were no East Anglian dealers I'd already planned to be "self-sufficient" with regard to assembly / servicing, after a discussion with David and other Wisper owners in the region. I did get the spokes checked and tensioned by a proper well respected local mechanic with e-bike experience after 300 miles but I have successfully done all the other maintenance myself including replacing the chain, brake pads and also a faulty pedelec sensor replaced under warranty...

A normal "on-line" Wisper comes in a really robust box as David mentions. the box is now in a room in my house being used as a shelf/storage space (and the faulty pedelec sensor has ended up as a fridge magnet) :D

Hi Alex,

yes it sound too good to be true but it is true. On many occasions we were delivering fully assembled bikes to our clients and what we mean by fully assembled means that you literally jump on the bike straight away (handlebars fitted, pedals fitted, even the battery can be fully charged if you request so) On top of that the bikes are delivered to the client with either myself or my colleague so you get the full training on how to use the bike and all maintenance tips. Not really much difference from when you would be buying from the store directly.

Finding my (electric) wheels

Hi Andy82,

The front wheel was fitted. The handlebars were fitted parallel to the frame so had to be turned to the desired position and tightened. The box was adequate to fit the length of the bike i.e in excess of 6ft / 183cm. The width about 1ft /30cm.
