Is it difficult to run two hub motors?

Hi Guys,

Now i got my bike. I am thinking of putting together a second one for a family member. The bike needs to pull a trailer with a fair bit of weight on it

So, me thinking is it possible to run a front and a rear hub 250w motor. Which I am hoping will give me the additional pulling power i need. Don't want it to go over the 15mph, but i want to be a little more heavy duty. Or will the wheels have some sort of fighting going on making the bike unstable.

Will two 250w hub motors still be street legal?

If its possible to get a contraption together that works in pedal assist mode only. What would people recommend parts wise? I am sure I am not the only one who has looked at a two hub rig.

No not legal. Two motors means two controllers, double the wiring and possibly two throttles although it is possible to use one and a pedelec sensor. The battery will also have to be beefier to supply the power demand...simpler and easier to just fit a more capable/powerful motor like the Bafang BPM...

Both options would be illegal anyway.

Another option might be to upgrade to a larger controller. Is one that has a higher rated amp peak.
Ie if the peak on your current controller is 15amp then one with 20amp should give you 25% more peak torque.
As electric power increases in a linear factor with an increase in power.

Please note increasing the amps will increase torque. But at the expense of battery power and life depending on the cells and their characteristics.

The only reason to fit two motors would be if you already had one fitted and you happened to have an additional complete kit lying around your garage doing nothing, otherwise, I'm in complete agreement with my friend NRG: It's a lot simpler and cheaper to fit a single BPM kit, which has more than enough pulling power.
