Reading the French scooter site (which did have some ebikes) and some other comments on here has got me wondering...
Despite all the problems, is the UK becoming the most popular place for electric bicycles in the EU, both sales and development? I get the impression that in some European nations such as FR and IT the proliferation of cheap petrol powered scooters permitted even to youths of 14 means ebikes will be obviously less popular...
in places like DK, DE, NL etc terrain and better infrastructure means that normal bikes are more popular... (although perhaps DE and AT have more hills)
it was however mentioned on here that other Europeans pay much more for an e-bike than we do even with the poor exchange rates - perhaps because of this I've looked on the foreign websites and it seems they are 3-4 years behind the UK in available technology (for instance the French are still selling NiMH battery bikes from less known Chinese manufacturers)
It also seems companies like Wisper and Powacycle are designing bikes in the UK (although the manufacture is of course in China) and they are then exporting the UK designed bikes across the EU...
is this actually an untold or unknown British success story?
