I've got the horn!

Finally I've realised that a bell doesn't cut it on the mean streets of Bradford, people still step out in front of me, and Friday was the last straw with a bus overtaking me then pulling to the side very sharply forcing me up onto the pavement and almost into a bush.

So as I'm still waiting for my Orp horn I decided to knock something up. My headlight already has an 8.4v lithium pack in my top bag so i made a splitter lead with a fuse and fed it to a 6V motorbike horn bolted behind my reflector. The horn push is a velcro loop with a micro pushbutton switch silconed and sewn into the end.

Very loud and hopefully effective! Will be testing this coming week.

I'd seen that but wanted something that sounded like a proper horn rather than a buzzer. The video doesn't do it justice. It sounds like a small car horn so hopefully will command some attention.

I bet it is many times more effective than any other "bell" it illicits the same reaction as a car in my experience.

you can get an air horn which would be louder, one which was on the market operated from a canister which you pump up with a bike pump,

as loud as a train hooter a bit extreme for cycleways, but you would gain attention.

Airzounds? I was underwhelmed when I first heard one, plus the car horn gets the automatic response from drivers as its what they expect to hear.
The Airzounds is to loud for paths but to quiet/wrong sound for roads IMHO.

Used it today on a short run, a short tap gives a little "chirp" and hitting it gives the full blast! Only had to blast one lorry driver that leapt down out of his cab straight into oncoming traffic! I'm sure he did a little wee.
