I have been looking at reasons to but an electric bike now for ages - I don't need one for any commute, so basically its a toy..In order to avoid a divorce, I am restricted to a budget of about £600.00. Having not even rode an electric bike before I really don't know much about them over than reading various forums and reviews. I like the look of the GreenEdge CS2 sold by 'ebikes-direct'. What I want to know really is how far it will take me using no pedal power on a flat surface - I weigh about 11st. Also, with this type of bike, will it get to anywhere near the 15mph without peddling, or do you have to pedal to get this type of speed.

Many thanks.

I confess that a few years ago I was in a similar situation. Just for fun can be a tough sell.

I worked out that I could save about 20p/mile for every journey that I made on the bike, leaving the car at home on the drive.

So, your £600 bike will pay for itself in 3000 miles. Very easy/enjoyable to do over 3 Years.

Does that help?

Sorry that I can't advise on the type of bike that you require, but it's refreshing to read the words "basically it's a toy" and why not. :) That is how I started as well.
Okay my first choice of bike has proved to be not much more than an expensive door stop, but it still gave me the bug to get me hooked.

Good luck, and enjoy.

With your light weight, it should easily do 15 mph without pedalling although it doesn't feel right not pedalling, so you'll want to pedal anyway.
