Just Got into E-Bikes – Anyone Tried a Conversion Kit like KirbEbike?

Hey all,

New to the e-bike world and thought I’d ask for some advice. I’ve been looking into getting an electric bike for commuting and weekend rides, but full e-bikes can be pricey. I came across KirbEbike and their conversion kits – they seem budget-friendly and have good range and power options.

Has anyone here actually used a KirbEbike kit? What was the install like? And how does it hold up on UK roads (and trails on the weekends)?

Would love to hear any feedback or tips before I take the plunge. Cheers in advance!

They're basically the same as any other kits comprising standard Chinese stuff. The legal ones have the desirable KT controllers, but they only seem to do front wheel versions, which IMHO are not good for most bikes due to safety, handling and general rideability issues. A rear motor is always a lot better.

Don't waste your time with the 500w+ kits. The police are really starting to clamp down on them. If they catch you, not only do they take your bike, but they often throw the book at you too regarding prosecutions.

Fwiw i fitted a Yose-Power rear wheel kit a couple of years back, Very happy with it still, while others will upgrade the control system to give better control and pump more amps to the motor LEGALY, Im still content running the basic stock system. circa £400 inclusive of a quality battery.

The donor bike for a conversion really needs Very Good brakes, and suspension becomes more relevant as with motor assist the need to rise out of the saddle is significantly less so bumps etc run all the way up your arms/spine..
(seat post suspension is a thing!)

Keep an eye on the bargains thread in here for updates on any ebay/amazon/argos special deals, some of the 499 amazon specials etc are worth a 2nd look.. especially if your considering a donor with rim brakes.

6.53 talking about the conversion that they had already done on their hybrid. 7.02 thinking about taking the plunge. It looks like kirbebikes can also travel in time.

Anyone else interested in time travel meet here last Thursday.
