Thanks all P3 was the issue

on my old 890 unit there were 3 power levels so it was very noticeable moving between them - but on the LCD3 it feels much more subtle, I will look forward to getting used to it.
If it is now redundant for your needs you could sell your old 890 led to Quantums who having problems with his Viking bike, if he can confirm he has a KT controller then it will be a good match for him.

With the five levels of PAS the approx. percentage of current in each level;
1/13%
2/20%
3/33%
4/50%
5/100%

5 feels mighty but will drain the battery if used a lot.

Good info. I can add to that to complete the story and understanding.

Theny are the controller power limits, but on the higher levels, you won't get those powers all the time. When you get to a certain speed, the motor starts reducing the power due to the back emf. It's interesting to watch the watts on the LCD to see how that works. Obviously, it will be more apparent when travelling in top gear on level 5. You'll get the full power, say 550W at low speed, then you'll see it ramping down as you go faster until you're pedalling without any assistance.

When you get close to maximum speed, you get the same power which ever level you're set to. That means that you can feel a big difference in power level at low speed where you need it, say when you're climbing or starting off, but not so much when you're going fast. This is one area where hub motors gain efficiency against crank motors.

Cheers guys - I am tootling along at 6 mph avg as its a trike and I am towing my daughter on a tomcat trailer.

So I am ok in 2 or 3 as I used LOW (890) most of the time and when when I get to short sharp inclines (like out of subways) I also use the throttle to help get up.

I have fitted a mega range cassette so I am in 34 all the time

I realise that I am straining the motor, so when it dies I will just swap the hub out OR I might get a Jorvik 26" E trike!
