My first experience with Pedelecs was very mixed. I loved the experience of my Trek Valencia+ when it was working but after a replacement bike started losing spokes enough was enough. Trek were excellent to deal with and gave a refund to my dealer. Edinburgh Cycle Shop have provided a great service throughout my ownership of the Trek and after much deliberating I eventually chose a KTM Macina Cross. The bike arrived in reasonable time from the Continent and I picked it up a few hours back.
First impressions are really positive and it looks much nicer in the flesh than photos. The bike appears to be a far better design than the Trek. The Trek always seemed to be a Hybrid with an ebike bolted on but the KTM looks like it is molded around the Crank Drive and battery. This makes weight distribution much better and it also feels a good bit lighter than the Trek.
I have only had the opportunity for a couple of miles test run but so far so good. The motor does produce a small amount of noise but should be easy enough to live with. Cycling unpowered is really good and although you notice the extra weight the Crank Drive is so much more cycle like than the Hub Drive of the Trek. It will take me a bit of getting used to front suspension and I suspect they will be locked out most of the time. The brakes are really good, positive with lots of power compared to the Trek. Servicing should be easy enough and the Hub gears work really well and by all acounts are easy to adjust.
I'll report back later when I have put the bike through its paces but hopefully this experience will be better than my last Pedelec one.
