hi my lafree died on the way to work this morning the red light came on all the time on the on/off switch.Does anyone know if the switch could be replaced with a simple on/off switch or could it be main stuff inside motor that has gone wrong. i tried the bike again a few minutes ago and it was working ok but does not seem to have eco mode.

Jac,

It sounds like an intermittent problem and could well be a wiring fault, so I would check that first for loose connections. The switch is a relatively simple device and easily disassembled to check the connections. If you do this be carefull not to lose the small coil spring and ball bering inside the switch cover.

They do suffer from water in them Jim, A to B's bike had the same trouble.

If the water has got into a microswitch it could take a while indoors to get it dried out, but it's not usually that bad. Normally it's just dirty water on the printed circuit board.
