I know some biks have lighting run off the motor battery. Is there a cheap and convenient way of doing this on my 8Fun conversion

You can use a dc/dc converter.
This one will give 3 amps at 12v, but if you search Ebay you can find 5amps and more - if you need that much.
DC -DC HRD Converter DC 24v 36v 48v step down to 12v 3A | eBay
This is the one I have where it is adjustable

You just connect it to your battery 36v and it gives out 12v on the other side, which you can use to charge your phone, work your lights or camera, or anything else, provided you don't go over the current limit.

You can also use a gutted mobile phone charger - most are insensitive to input so will work on 36/48V DC in and provide 5 or 6V DC out, which is perfect for adapting many LED lighting kits. Many folk on endless-sphere have used this method. Dead handy if you've got one or several lying around.

That's an interesting idea. I have a couple of in car chargers left from my last phone. I will experiment. Thank you.

Oops, I don't know about in-car chargers, since I suspect they'd be expecting 12V nominal. I meant mains chargers (wallwarts).

Are there any decent cycle headlights that could use a 12v input?

I currently use an Oxford ultra torch 9 which is ok but having something a bit brighter the illuminates the road a bit more would be great. Also save me charging up 3 aaa nihm batteries every now and then. ESP with the nights drawing in.

Agreed, I use these on my bikes and they are excellent. Good price too, £10 cheaper than the ones I bought off DealExtreme.....

Has anyone seen a supplier of fork crown mounted led lights that aren't stupidly expensive?

Are any ebike manufacturers selling their factory fitted lights separately?

I like the look of the lights linked above but I don't trust the plastic mounts - I've lost 4 sets of lights (or part thereof) thanks to plastic mounts - either the mount breaking, or the light pinging off.
