The hydrogen fuel cell is a bit of a swap though, since the only way to produce hydrogen in the vast quantities that will be needed without destroying the planet means nuclear generation of electricity.

That in turn will mean an immense increase in the dirty process of mining uranium with the huge quantities of unwanted spoil that results.

The only real solution to all the problems, fuel, food, water etc., is a stable world population of around a billion rather than the nearing 7 billions we have at present, but how to achieve that is a whole new problem.

A problem that nature might solve for us if we aren't careful.
