BEBA's London E-bike Fest as a part of the London Green Fair is to be held from 12.00 to 19.00 on 9th and 10th June in The Regent's Park London.

The London Green Fair is already a superb day out with nearly 25,000 Londoners attending in 2011. This year has been augmented by the addition of the Electric Bike Fest.

Unfortunately the second day of the event clashes with Alastair's Bristol day however as far as I know, all the bikes at the London Event will be also be available to test ride in Bristol.

Bikes available to test ride include;

A to B Metro
Ave
Batribike
EBCO
Fast Forward
Green Zebra
Solex
Storck Raddar
Wisper

I look forward to seeing you there!

All the best

David

Do they never have any of these events in the North-East of England? The only time I've seen eBikes on show has been when I've been to a couple of caravan shows this year, but even then, there were only a couple of suppliers.

Doesn't matter for me now, as I've just got one, but it would help promote the bikes up here. We have one bike shop in town that sells them, has done for years, but there's not much of a range, and they're all the old fashioned sit up and beg, or shopper type bikes. I think the companies are missing an opportunity up here.

I wonder where that can be, NCR keeps bringing National Cash Register to mind cos you always see it on the tills....lol :)

.
Trouble is that for the south west Birmingham is the far north :)

Seriously though does seem rather short sighted to go no further north especially as with all those hills I would of thought the north would be a very fertile ground to try and sell bikes.

Birmingham is 'darn sarf' from up here...lol.:)

Definitely a missed opportunity though, it's not far from Devon and Cornwall, we go there on holiday. The sale of one bike would cover the fuel costs.

i noticed you mentioned Atmosphere Kites switching to selling electric bikes on another thread. Are you the GaRRy off the Flexifoil forum? I haven't been on there for a few years as I quit kite buggying after a bad knee injury

Him and many others :(

A few big players now and a few others just about hanging on. As useful as internet is it does have a lot to answer for

There internet is good for shopping around, but no doubt hits local 'real' shops. However, around here we suffered from the same as mentioned on this thread about the bike shows, none around here to go to, so online was the only way to go.

I think it also suffered from it's own success. There had been people doing it for years, but it got big around 2003 when we started flying, and seemed to have a couple of boom years, then people moved on to other things, just leaving the die-hards left flying. Probably not enough to sustain the shops. Also once you've built your kitebag up, you don't go buying kites every week, so there would be a saturation point. Same happened with the PC market once everyone had a computer.

I've still kept all my kites except my 7m, and buggy, which I sold. Often fancied getting them out again, but I've since had a carpal tunnel op too, so have a weak grip now (sound like a right wreck....lol)

I agree there should be a lot more activity in the north of the country, and we addressing the situation. We are trying to take space as E4 at the Sky ride in Manchester but are having an issue with the organisers at the moment.

If anyone has any suggestions for a venue attached to an event that would attract the type of people that would like to try an electric bike please let me know. If we cant find such an event, would a pure e-bike day be well attended?

All the best

To be honest, Manchester is still a bit far south for people in the north-east, Newcastle-upon-Tyne would be a better location. Manchester is about 130 miles from here, probably 150miles for people on Tyneside.

We went to a caravan show at Event City, Trafford Centre, Manchester in February which is where I first saw anyone selling electric bikes, there was only two traders I think, but we made it a weekend away due to the distance. Then a few weeks later there was a smaller caravan show on Teesside where I saw one of these traders again (Poweredbicycles.co.uk), and I got talking to them. They let me have a go of their bikes even though I told them I wouldn't be able to buy from them, as I was getting one on the company cycle to work scheme and they'd chosen to use one supplier for all bikes.

I was impressed with their bikes though, I tried a mountain bike and a folder, as I had been planning on getting a folder to be able to take it to the caravan too. But after trying the mountain bike, I was swayed that way, and as it would be mainly for travel to work, the mountain bike was the better option. The folder felt twitchy, and top heavy.

It was very good of them to let me try them, even though they knew I wouldn't be a sale, and did draw me into wanting an electric bike more. The Fast4ward Peak I ended up getting was better specced in some ways, and not others. It's 36v where theirs was 26v, but they had disc brakes where mine has V brakes (which are actually very good). But the Peak has better gears (Shimano Alivio).

I would think you'd do a lot of business up here, so long as you get the word out about the shows to maximise attendance. Tagging on to other shows is probably better than a standalone show, and cheaper too. There are lots of events up here which would be suitable. We go to classic car shows, often well attended by older people, and the always have stalls at the shows too, possibly a ready made market. There's lots of these throughout the summer season.

There are other big events such as the Pickering Traction Engine Rally in July or August which gets a massive attendance. Any of these types of show would bring you into contact with potential customers. I know everyone who's had a go of my bike has been impressed, it's just getting people to try one.

Motorhome/caravan shows operate a closed shop! if another dealer trys to get a stand to exhibit, the other traders complain and get then barred...It is unbelievable. On my motorhome forum you would think theses two brands of ebikes are the only ones available!

They were just examples, and not on very often. The other type of venues I mentioned are a much better option, happen more often, and open to all.
