Copied from another sub forum in the hope of getting more traffic....

Hi all

My first foray into the the world of Pedelecs, and I am after some advice on a rack top bag that will comfortably hold an Abus GRANIT XPlus 540 U-Lock. I know it's a bit of a monster, hence my asking :)

The Vektron S10 is coming on Wednesday 5th August, and boy am I looking forward to it :)

My D lock is 290mm x180mm and fits in my FWE top rack bag, yours might well fit as well but will be a bit tighter.

Does the lock not come with a frame mount? I have the same lock and it locks very securely to the frame.
Yes, it comes with a carrier which can be frame mounted, however the only place to mount it on the S10 would be somewhere on the rear rack. To be honest I think I need to wait until I have both bike and lock together to judge the best method of carrying the lock.

I think I might need something slightly longer. The web quotes 37cm in length, but I guess I could get that shorter by not mounting the bottom locking bar to the D when carrying in a rack bag.

Again I am going to have to wait a couple of days to find out :) But thank you both for your replies

That looks to be one of the better locks commented on by the 'Lock Picking Lawyer' - he is a genius lock picker and even with specialist tools, it took him around 75secs to pick that lock (which makes it one of the better locks out there, believe me!).

You can watch his video here - he has a lot of such videos - it's enough to never let your precious bike out of sight, EVER!

Many thanks Bikes4two, I have seen that (and many others besides) which moved me to buy that particular lock, which has now been delivered by Amazon along with the Kryptonite Cobra cable. Just awaiting bike delivery so I can size everything up correctly.

Unfortunately the first review at Amazon isn't encouraging.
No need to pick it when you've got an angle grinder handy.

Battery powered angle grinders have been the worst thing ever for bicycle security sadly , even when parked in well watched sites . All it takes is several scrotes to obstruct the view for 30 secs and your pride and joy has vanished for ever .

my intention is to use the bike purely for exercise, maybe stop off for a coffee mid ride, but not to let it out of my sight for too long.

Should be safe enough then , personally I have kittens whenever I go shopping , use 2 locks, plus the built in lock on my bike , and a good patina of mud so it don't look pricey lol .

I've got an Altura rack bag looks a bit like this one, but mine also has folding pannier bags that pack away into to little pouches on the side. It's a perfect fit for my Abbus bike lock and you can remove the bag from the bike easily to put your shopping in and then pop it back on again.

I have two e-bikes for this reason, one best bike for commuting to work, which is locked in my office, then a crappy 20yr old steel framed Powabyke for going to the shops.
