Hi all,
I have an old alien e bike with a bafang 250w front hub motor and a 350w controller (which was an upgrade from its original). Its been off the road for 7 years and needs a new battery.

I'm 17stone and planning to use it for a 5mile each way commute with a couple of big hills and occasional longer rides and was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on battery options. I'm also curious if I could /should put a 48v battery with it. Thanks for any advice.

Well. I look at the titles of any new posts and then decide whether to read them of not... and knowing I had to be wrong I hoped this was something to do with the alien movies... oh dear I confess to being somewhat disappointed.. am I a totally sad case?

Sorry, think I might rename it.

Those old KU60 controllers are great for testing motors, but pretty poor by today's standards. The pedal assist is very bad and the commutation makes the motor noisy.

Your weight at 17st is a bit much for that motor and 48v, so I'd be thinking about a 36v battery and a controller that gives around 18 to 20 amps.

36v 20A gives the same torque as 48v 15A, but it's more efficient, so less problems with heat for both the controller and battery.

I'll give it a go with the ku60 and see how it goes.
Would any current 350w controller be an improvement or are there better brands I should try if I decide to upgrade?

Ignore the controller wattage rating as used by some sellers, focus on the max amps said controller can provide to suit your battery needs and required voltage. Controllers like KT are dual voltage.
