:p Went out for an hour this afternoon on my Agattu, about a mile from home i came to a road junction, coming up the hill was a lycra lad, with all the gear. I set off in front of him ambling along in 6th gear up the hill.
When he breezed past i put the power on full and set off in pursuit, soon ran out of assist in 6th, snicked into 7th and started to match his speed, snicked into 8th and started to catch him, at which point he turned off!
I felt like Lance Armstrong just for a minute or two, it was great :)

Hehe. I passed some lyrca's today, a group of them all clad out cycling together..I was going down hill as they were coming in opposite direction up it. All middle aged they were, friendly bunch too gave a wave.

My commute is a seven miler, but has three mile stretch of gentle hill down from Whitefield into Manchester City Centre down Bury Old Road. It's the type that you don't really notice in the car, but can be a bit of a slog heading uphill on the bike - especially when it suddenly steepens a few degrees.

No problem for a pedelec, of course, and in days gone by I have sallied past many a lycra lad putting some sweat down on the tougher sections. You can almost here the same mental thought as I cruise past:

"How does that fat bloke on that big bike get up here so easily?"
:)

Its a massive cheat but to be honest, in the spirit of doing a commute every day i think gentle exercise is better than going mental un assisted for 2 days of the week with muscle recovery.

Gentle? I used to look like I'd run a marathon when I got home from a commute, and that was when I was a bit younger and slightly less rotund.

Getting back to it tomorrow. Oxygen may be required, pedelec or no...

You wouldn't be one of the Cheetham Hill Cohens by any chance?

Puntastic! :)

In fact, Cohen is a bit like the jewish equivalent of Smith around Cheetham Hill and Broughton - though my Dad was born just around the corner from there, so I could technically lay a peripheral claim to that moniker.

Alas, the weather forecasting let me down this on my "pedelec commute rebirth" this morning, and when the drizzle started after a mile I bottled it and went back for the car - didn't want to risk getting stuck in the rain with my potentially dodgy battery. So it is going to be a bit longer before I am back out teaching the lycra brigade how it is done.
