My Suntour XCT fork has been getting a little noisy lately, so I decided to do something about it.

I ordered one of these:

and some of this:
Bike Grease 2000.jpg
My fork only has one spring and no rebound control or other fancy tricks, so it's about as basic as forks get.

I removed the cap from the preload adjuster side and carefully removed the spring.

The spring had a pitiful amount of grease on it from the factory. So I smothered the bugger in grease, spooned about a tablespoon into the tube that the spring came out of, replaced the spring and screwed the cap back on.

The fork is now much quieter and smoother in operation.

The grease is safe on rubber, plastics and elastomers, sticks like a sticky thing in sticky land, and is on offer at Tredz at the moment for £5.99 with free delivery.

BTW, Tredz show the squeezy tube version, but mine came in a tub.

The fork should be good for the next 1000 miles.

Well worth doing if you have a spring fork that needs a little rejuvenation :)
