Hi everyone here in the eBike community!

I have recently decided that an eBike is probably a better use of my money than a car to commute to work which is around a 30 mile round trip mainly on the flat.

The Cyclotricity Revolver 500W eBike tickled my fancy after reading this review, because the real world range is 38 miles restricted at 250W - which is more than enough for me: http://www.slinkystudio.info/reviews/cyclotricity-revolver-500w-ebike-review

But what's more when derestricted for off-road at 500W it sounds like quite a jammy setup, that can take on woodland trails and the like. The tyres, frame and suspension look up to task and the electric motor sounds more than capable with just the throttle engaged.

So my question is to those who also own this eBike, can it definitely and competently achieve such high range?

Don't believe anything about what anybody says about range from a bike. How far you go depends more on you and your tides than the bike.

The Cycoltricity 500W motor is most efficient when running at constant high speed. I can't see it being very efficient restricted to 250W. 30 miles is probably achievable if you pedal along steadily, given that your rides are flat, but you don't mention how many stop/starts, which is what will reduce your range. They do a 15Ah option. I would take that one, because it won't be nice o pedal when the battery runs out.

The photo of the rider in that review looked like someone that was used to pedalling hard and he didn't look heavy. If you're like him, you might get a similar range.

Thank you for your answer, it's really helpful!

The male rider within the review looks to be a teenager, judging by the skinniness :) I searched for the site on Google to see the editorial team and came across someone who works for the site called 'Jacob Sheppard'. He appears to be the same person as in the review and looks about 14!!!

So likely I would as you say achieve very different range and I'm not the strongest of cyclers either.

Also as a slightly off-topice question, does anyone keep eBikes restricted to respect the law or is it a given that you ride them as fast as you can when applicable?

The majority here ride legal bikes I would say. Plenty don’t and some are just a little bit illegal. Like being a little bit pregnant.

There is a lot of misunderstanding about legalities in some quarters. Such as the so called off road idea which is not what many people, and from what you wrote, you think it is. Also if this bike you are interested in can be switched to so called legal and illegal modes by the rider it isn’t going to be legal in either form.
