Nice job Miles, very neat and professional. Applying your own operating skills with that DualDrive usage should easily match the Swizzbee's drive for efficiency, and yours is neater anyway.

I like the restraint on the DualDrive of using only the sprockets necessary to give a sensible gear range.

This set-up seemed the best all-round compromise. The drag from the Sprague clutch is imperceptible - so you have a high quality bike with 10 gears and the option of using a 3 speed motor for hills..

The thing that put me off the Swizzbee approach was that the pedal gearing was dependent on the motor.. not helpful if you are switching the motor in and out.

I think so too Miles, anything which disturbs pedalling rhythm like that is undesirable. Clever it might be, but I think the Swizzbee overrated, some aspects of it's implementation not well thought through.

Yours looks altogether more interesting.
