Please I am kicking around an idea and would appreciate forum members input regarding potential problems that might be encountered with regards to practicality and legality.

My idea is to construct a push trailer using a mobility scooter. Initially I had considered using the trans axle and motor from the scooter and mounting them to a purpose built chassis. That is making use of the mobility scooter parts to construct the push trailer.

Then I thought about it again. Why not make use of a large part of the mobility scooter chassis as the chassis of the push trailer by doing that I would not have to fabricate mounting points for the trans axle and also and most importantly it would still legally be a mobility scooter. I have mobility problems and do have a mobility scooter which I do use to pull a trailer and I have encountered no problems with that. So if pulling is legal why not pushing?

Essentially my idea is to remove the front axle of the mobility scooter and and replace it by a reconfigured detachable and articulated front axle which is bicycle shaped. This would allow the seating arrangement to relocated forward over the new inline front axle this would then enable me to dispense with the old seating arrangement and much of the bodywork. Obviously the scooter would be taxed and registered accordingly. The reason for going to all this trouble is to gain range and hill climbing ability not speed. As I understand it For class 3 invalid carriages their are no power restrictions though their are speed restrictions. 8mph for road use. Not that important to me range being more important to me than speed. The weight limit also goes up to 150kg allowing you to carry heavier battery packs.

Any ideas that you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
