PCC calls for police to be allowed to crush seized e-bikes and e-scooters after just 7 days
TLDR: Actually the
government is proposing destruction after 48 hours and the
public consultation closed on 8th July - it's a shame the West Midlands PCC article above didn't appear until the 16th.
This seems like the government amending legislation so as to impede people's participation in due process, and to put the entire outcome in the hands of the police. I get that ASB's a safety issue too but I reckon both these actions are unsafe and we should make a fuss about that to media and MPs.

At the moment the police have to store seized vehicles for 14 days. Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for the West Midlands said: “The proposal to crush such vehicles – within 7 days of seizure – is a proportionate and welcome tactic that will deliver swift justice, prevent reoffending, and reduce the burden on police resources.”
The PCC recognises that most vehicles used in this way are never reclaimed and pose a continued risk, if returned to the streets. The proposed change would also reduce storage costs, improve operational efficiency, and send a clear deterrent message, to those engaging in criminal and anti-social and behaviour.

Perpetrators of antisocial driving face having their cars, e-scooters or off-road bikes seized and destroyed after 48 hours under stronger powers proposed by the government. Currently, police must wait 14 days before being able to dispose of a vehicle, making it easier for offenders to reclaim their vehicles and with a limited deterrent to repeat offending.
