Bloody hell Tony, calm down :D

Seriously though Andy - my hyperbolic day dream aside, it is the tolerance of this kind of anti-social criminal behaviour which has led to so many of our cities becoming pretty much lawless wastelands to the benefit of organised crime and the detriment of the quality of life of others.

When I was a young man of that age, I certainly was not an angel, but I knew that if I went beyond a very narrow margin of outlawry and got caught, the world was going to fall on my head and that there would be a very good chance of being caught and severely punished. That was the 1960s. You knew where the boundaries were and they were basically specified by the law.

In 1965 at the age of fourteen, I was stopped one winter evening after dark, while riding my bike without lights and questioned and was given a police caution. I kid you not. A copper stepped out in front of me, put up his hand and I stopped and gave my name and address when questioned and told I had committed an offence. I had to attend an appointment at the police station with my mother and was admonished by a rough old police sergeant, and warned that if I got into any more trouble, this offence would also be dealt with in court. It certainly affected what I did after. My mother was furious - more frightening than the police sergeant by far.

Now - no where near. We tolerate criminal dug dealing and no one will bother the character I was talking about because he will NOT COMPLY with any attempt to stop him, and will ride off dangerously. Our softly softly police culture will therefore pull back and let him get away rather than knocking him off the bike. So he has impunity to fully engage with the criminal gangs who employ him. He glories in this - which is why whenever I have seen him and he comes near anyone else, he rears up on his back wheel and passes within a foot or two of other people and cars. He will get worse and worse unless he is stopped and punished.
