Motor won't disengage

I have a Kudos King.

Suddenly the motor doesn't disengage, so it's difficult to get above 17mph because of the resistance, and going down hills where I normally coast at 30mph it will only get up to about 20mph.

When I turn the back wheel whilst stationary there is a fair amount of resistance.

I'm not familiar with what's inside the mototor/hub, is it something I can easily fix, or does it go back to the shop ?

cheers
Alan

It sounds like the internal freewheel that disconnects the motor from the hub on the overrun is locked on. If it's under warranty, best take it back, but if out of warranty, let us know so we can help further.

Turn the bike upside down; go get your best lump-hammer; whack the tyre at a tanjent in the forward rotation direction; check to see if it's free. If not, try a couple more. IIf you do Karate Kung Fu or Tai Quan Do, you can practice your best roundhouse kicks (mawashi geri) on it. That should do the job.

If neither of these techniques work, it's time to open up the motor. Have a look at the flange on the motor next to where the spokes fit. If you can see 6 small screws holding the side on, you're in luck and it's an easy job to open up the motor. If you can't see screws, you're screwed because it's difficult to get it apart. Fingers crossed!
