New Ezee kit question re motor

I see the Ezee electric hub motor is now on sale at Cyclepoint Brighton after reading another thread. As I am about to join you all & make up my own electric MTB I would love to know what your views are on the Ezee hub motor in terms of power & reliability.

I am close to buying the Alien 36v kit but although it's £400 cheaper than the Ezee kit I would need to use front V's on my bike & I see the ezee can come in disc form which I much prefer as anyone who moved from V's to disc will know what I mean.

Are the components in the ezee kit of good quality ? any of you comments would be a great help with my build.

The eZee motor is claimed as their own design after using the Suzhou Bafang motors for years. The latter did have the odd problem and the eZee design presumably addresses those and more accurately fits their requirements.

Therefore there isn't years of experience with them, but given the very high reliability of hub motors in general and eZee's experience with them, I would be confident in using one. My main bike uses one of eZee's former Bafang motors which has been unfailingly reliable over thousands of miles, and I'd expect their version to be at least as good.

They suffered the odd controller failures in earlier years, but over the last year or so they seem to be very reliable and those on my two eZee bikes have been faultless since purchase in mid 2006. Likewise they had problems with the Phylion made Li-ion batteries following their introduction, but those have been changed to a much more reliable and robust Li-polymer type from another manufacturer which is also much lighter than before.

Am I right in thinking the Alien hubs are Suzhou Bafang ?.

To be honest as the Alien kit is over half the price of Ezee I was worried that the alien hub might be badly made but if it's Suzhou Bafang then perhaps my worries are unfounded. I see that Suzhou Bafang do make a electric disc hub but I never got an email back from them when I enquired about buying direct.

I wish I could make my mind up

I can only comment on the EZEE kit that I'm using. I purchased the kit in January 2008. I have now more the 4500km and no problems at all. I love it and would higly recommend it.
The most expensive component in a kit is the battery. I know EZEE had battery problems in the past but my battery has +-160 cycles and shows no decrease in performance. I easily do the 40km per day on one battery load. I do limit my speed to 25km.
