I need a new front/wheel motor for my ebike (Raleigh velo trail) 26" 36v with 9 pin adaptor. Can I put on any wheel/motor fitting that description? And where can I find one? Bike shop quote Raleigh as saying £220 plus not available til November!! Can see very few on EBay.

quite likely Rebecca. There should be some identification on the casing of the motor. it would be good if you can post a picture of the motor and a picture of the 9-pin connector for confirmation.

Just found 2nd hand one (not Raleigh) on eBay, wondering whether to bid?

it looks very much standard 9-pin waterproof connector for motor with Hall. Look on your charger's label to confirm the voltage. If the charger output 42V then your motor is a 36V.

yes. Can you post a link to the motor you want to bid for confirmation?

Barring winning the ebay one , you could try Panda bikes or you may have to import one from China using GBK or BMSB.
If its the Powabyke one on ebay then it is no good as that is a brushed hub motor and will be not have a 9 pin connector, I will answer it myself as no :p.

I reckon you'd be better off bidding for the one Nealh suggested. That one being the same model, has matching rim with your rear wheel

I'm wondering now about spare parts in general as Raleigh seems to have moved on to its new generation. Should I be stockpiling for the future of my old generation ebike or just trust that eBay will provide?

Wow! Thanks so much for all this fab advice. This is the eBay link Check it out now: http://r.ebay.com/LsqBMx
Not to dissimilar to the velo model, if you think its worth it to you or you can afford it then but is currently over £80. You could try PMing or contacting Cyclezee in MK to see if he has other motors first before you bid, however his one you should eventually bid for.
