New Kalkhoff motor problem

We've just had a new motor fitted, by local bike shop, to a Pro Connect (previous motor developed a nasty crack in the casing). New one cuts out abruptly at much lower loads/speeds than previous one. Also lights no longer working. Any ideas very welcome. Thanks,
