It looks like the ebike market has another company ready to market its offerings. Heres the Diamant.

Under 22Kgs according to the company website

Is this company owned by Trek?

Again no technical detail (that I can see) but a very nice looking bike.

The battery looks a decent size, although a bit high up. Suppose it will be expensive and no throttle:(

Reading what I can from the 'Katalog 2009' and selecting the Elite model (which I assume is their light version as the Sport has sus forks)..

the bike
..weighs 21.8Kgs
..is pedelec
..has a 40V 6.4 Ah lithium ion battery
..gives assistance between 25% and 200%
..rear LED off the battery
..schwalbe marathon supreme tyres
..6061 tubing
..Shimano Deore 27 gears

Hope this is right

I don't recognise the motor, but it looks a bit like a direct drive, somewhat similar to the Sparta/Koga one. If so the hill climbing ability could be questionable, sometimes the case with e-bikes from the low countries.

Even more details and a review of sorts HERE from Eurobike. This is a Trek subbrand and priced at E2800 (£2000??). It sounds like the Bionx was very popular too and there will hopefully be more to come, with a Birdy electric in the pipe (now that will be nice).

Seems I was probably right with it being direct drive, since it's a regenerative system like the BionX, those more usually direct drive.

It was good to read this comment on that site which I very much agree with:

"Well, mainly that there's too much faffing around with the actual bike design when all that's really needed is a light and efficient way of adding power to what we already know are the most sensible bike shapes. We don't need shaft drives, nor unusual frames; these things just add weight without giving any operational advantage. Similarly there's a big obsession with front and rear suspension, which is even more unnecessary on a town bike on the continent than it is over here. Just fit some bigger tyres, and do us all a favour: the systems are generally rubbish, and it's just more mass to push around."

Have always thought front suspension unnecessary on a road bike...but hey what do I know! lol

I emailed them in Germany and they emailed me back contact detail for Trek UK....no mention of E bikes there so have emailed them as well.

how can it have up to 200%...it looks a smashing bike.

some one needs to start up a retro fit throttle business:cool:

I dont just think it looks like the Bionx, looking at the controls, and power assistance, it looks like Trek may have actually commisioned Bionx on this one maybe. Look as the 250W motor specs ans the display on the bars here

I was suspicious of that too John, it may be the BionX design in a different hub shell.
